Housing

CYM campers live in double rooms in the SUNY Potsdam Knowles Residence Hall and eat meals in Lehman Dining Center. Triple rooms may be assigned as circumstances require. A full-time residence hall director and counseling staff, many of whom are current Crane School undergraduates or alumni, supervise housing with a student-counselor ratio of 10 to 1. Crane Youth Music is licensed by the New York State Department of Health.

Medical Services

In compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations the camp staff includes a full-time medical director who supervises emergency medical service with referral, if necessary, to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Parents will be notified of any emergency. Health forms are mandatory and all camper medications including aspirin and ibuprofen must be turned in to the medical staff upon arrival at camp.

Cell Phones

Use of cell phones is permitted in the dormitories only. If a camper brings a phone to class, rehearsal or concert, it will be taken away and returned to them in the dormitory. If a parent needs to reach their child during the day, please call the camp office and we will get a message to your child. Remember if you don't hear from your child, that isn't a bad thing! If there is a problem, you will hear from us.

Transportation

Commercial bus service is available to Potsdam. Upon request, CYM will provide transportation from the bus station to campus for campers only. Potsdam is located on the Northwest corner of the Adirondak Park and just minutes from many hiking, kayaking and camping sites.

Lodging for parents

There are a number of hotels and Bed and Breakfasts in the Potsdam area and St. Lawrence County. Potsdam is within a 2 hour drive to Ottawa (ON), Montreal (QC), Lake Placid, Alexandria Bay and a less than a 4 hour drive to Burlington (VT), Saratoga Springs, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.
